Education and Activity Fairs in Montreal

This month there are several education fairs being held in Montreal and around the West Island. These fairs provide an opportunity to talk to representatives from various schools, school boards, and tutoring centers in one convenient venue. If you are trying to decide where to send your child to school, whether a private school is a good option or need to look at some tutoring centers then these events can be a very useful and time saving option.

The Suburban’s Education and Activity Fair

The Suburban newspaper is hosting it’s first annual Education and Activity Fair on Wednesday September 15th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Laurent Hill Junior Academy. The school is located at 2355 Decelles in Saint Laurent.

Find out about educational opportunities for your child, get information on adult progams and identify possible after school activities. More than 75 exhibitors will be present including the English Montreal School Board, the Lester B Pearson School Board, various CEGEPs, private schools and tutoring services.

Montreal Private School Expo

On Sunday September 19th, 2010 there will be an exhibition featuring 24 private schools in and around the Montreal area. The event will be held at the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure Hotel starting at 12 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Admission is free if you pre-register otherwise it is $10 at the door. Montreal Families Education Fair

Montreal Families will once again be hosting an Education Fair on the West Island this year. The event is on for two days. It begins on Sunday September 26th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and continues on Monday evening September 27th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lester B. Pearson School Board will be attending as well as around 20 private schools in the area and several tutoring centers. It will be held at the Holiday Inn - Pointe Claire ( 6700 Trans Canada Highway ) and both parking and admission are free. For more information check out the Montreal Families website.


 Fireworks in Montreal

If your family enjoys watching fireworks here are a few places where you can watch a show this summer:

Baie d’Urfe always puts on an excellent display as an end to the Baie d’Urfe Days celebration. The fireworks show starts at 10:00 pm on June 21st 2010 at the Fritz Farm location.

Several West Island communities have fireworks displays for Canada Day on July 1st.

Beaconsfield will have a show at Centennial Park at 1000 pm on Canada Day.

Dorval will have a fireworks display in Millenium Park that day as well.

Dollard will have a fireworks display on July 1st at Dollard des Ormeaux Park. For information contact (51) 684-1012 x632

Fireworks Festival in Montreal

The Montreal Fireworks Festival is on again this year. You can buy tickets to see the show close up or watch the show for free from many great locations in Old Montreal, Ile Notre-Dame or Jacques-Cartier bridge. Shows start at 10:00 pm most Saturdays in June, July and August.

Beaconsfield Centennial Celebration

As part of Beaconsfield’s 100 year celebration a special fireworks exhibit will take place on Friday August 20th at Centennial Park. The show starts at 10:00 pm as well.


 West Island Summer Camps For Kids

Even though we’re still trying to get through winter it’s still not too early to begin making plans for your children’s summer camp activities.

On February 21st and 22nd there will be a summer camp fair on the West Island at the Holiday Inn Pointe Claire. You can meet over 50 organizations offering day camp and sleep away camp programs.

The West Island Summer Camp Fair will take place on Sunday February 21st between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM as well as on Monday February 22nd between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The Holiday Inn Pointe Claire is located at 6700 Trans Canada Highway near St. Jean Blvd. Admission and Parking is Free.

 Vancouver Olympic Games Torch Relay in West Island Montreal

The Olympic Flame for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games will be passing through the West Island on December 8th and December 10th. If you are interested in seeing the Olympic Torch Relay here is where it will be.

December 8th, 2009

On the afternoon of December 8th the Olympic Torch will pass through Valleyfield, Saint-Lazare, Hudson, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Pincourt, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Baie-d’Urfe and end in Beaconsfield. The torch is expected to arrive at Centennial Park in Beaconsfield at 6:00 pm where there will be a community celebration. On December 9th the torch goes to Mont-Tremblant for the day but returns to Montreal on December 10th.

December 10th, 2009

On December 10th the Olympic flame will pass through the West Island communities of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Kirkland, Pointe-Claire, Dorval and Montreal West.
